A disappointing turnout saw just eight (8) of the original sixteen (16) anglers attend our first ever fur and feather match, which was ran as a fundraiser for local homeless charity HELP. Conditions on the day might go some way to explaining the absence of half the field with torrential rain coupled with a very strong and cold wind making things very uncomfortable and bait presentation almost impossible at times. We are extremely grateful for the eight anglers that attended who, without, the event would have been cancelled.
The quality of sport on the day was not brilliant on account of the weather, but that said, it was a closely contested match that, above anything else, helped to raise a substantial amount of money for a very worthwhile cause.
Topping a difficult day was Dan Hart, who drew peg 2. Opting to fish paste long and then, later down his edge, Dan was able to find a handful of carp alongside a few roach to weigh in 18-06-00. Dan was confident his swim was worth a lot more, but simply couldn't get to the fish and present a bait well enough as a result of the gale force wind.
Finishing close behind in second place was Terry Pincher (Maver Central). Terry drew fancied peg 15 and, with the wind off his back, was able to fish long to the island offering banded pellet on the deck. At the end of the five hours, Terry offered a handful of roach and mostly carp to the scales to confirm 17-07-00.
Rounding off a close top three on the day was Nigel Hart, who drew peg 8 on the dam wall. Nigel was almost forced to concentrate solely on his short line due to an incredibly strong cross wind offering dead maggot to find a smattering of roach as well as a few carp to weigh in 15-07-00.
