Fishery To Remain Closed Despite Government U-turn

Writer's picture: Woodside FisheryWoodside Fishery

Despite the efforts of the Angling Trust managing to overturn the Government's decision after it was confirmed just 24 hours previous that fishing should not be allowed during lock down the fishery will REMAIN CLOSED. We honestly feel this latest U-turn is both misguided and short sighted failing to take into account the bigger picture. We are in the middle of a global pandemic that is getting worse, not better, with infection rates continuing to soar. As much as we would like it to be, fishing is NOT essential and to argue any different is ludicrous!

As such, we have taken the decision to remain closed to the public until Government guidelines & the lock down situation in general is eased or we feel safe to reopen. We have made this decision as we cannot guarantee anglers will remain local to them, especially given the location of the fishery, and do not want to encourage any unnecessary travel. At the risk of making an unpopular decision, we feel it would be irresponsible of us to reopen at this time.

This decision has not been undertaken lightly. We're doing our best to strike a balance between what is deemed necessary for people's mental well being whilst at the same time trying to protect both visiting anglers and our family.

We hope you respect our decision and look forward to seeing you again when we are able to do so safely.
