Thirteen (13) anglers lined the banks of both Woodside and Island pools once again for the second round of this year's winter league event. Conditions for this latest round were forecast to be relatively pleasant, but a freak torrential downpour during the small hours on the morning of the match tried its best put a dampner on things.
The quality of the fishing for round two varied for anglers depending on which lake they were on with the Island pool in particular fishing much harder than it has for most of the year. Woodside pool, however, produced some good weights with very little separating the top three anglers on the day.
The change in the weather resulted in the recent skimmer bream, roach and bigger perch making more of an appearance than in round one with a good number of carp also still showing for most.
WOODSIDE POOL
Round two saw a return to form for Dan Hart, who recorded a lake win as well taking the match win overall with 94-04-00 from peg 12 (permanent peg 11). Dan caught the majority of his fish down his edge on paste with a handful of carp falling to dobbing tactics during quieter spells. Dan secured an all important single point as well as adding a useful weight to his overall total, which will come in handy in the event of a tie on points at the end of the six round series.
Taking runner-up position on Woodside pool was Dan Bache from peg 14 (permanent peg 3). Dan started his match fishing caster on the short pole, but struggled to find the fish for most of the match before a look down his edge with worm. Dan enjoyed a busy end to his match weighing in a little over 70lbs of carp as well as an impressive near 19lb bag of quality silvers to end what could have otherwise been an extremely difficult day with 89-07-00 and a valuable two points.
Finishing in third place on the day, and matching his opening round performance was the ever consistant Dave Bowyer. Dave drew peg 9 (permament peg 19) and caught mostly quality carp with individual fish to nearly double figures to offer 85-13-00 to the scales. Dave caught on 6mm pellet fished down his edge to record his second third place finish in as many rounds.

ISLAND POOL
Winner on what proved to be a very difficult day on Island pool was Josh Gaunt. Josh drew peg 7 (permament peg 16) and, like many, struggled to find the fish despite trying a number of different lines. Josh eventually found feeding fish late on in the day fishing a pellet feeder with a banded pellet on the hook to weigh in 39-08-00 and secure a well earned single point.
Second place on the day was taken by Josh Sutterby from peg 4 (permanent peg 11). Josh made the most of having plenty of room with neighbouring peg 3 (permanent peg 9) not being drawn. That said, Josh fished a tidy match catching most of his 39-05-00 on casters and worms fished on the short pole just missing out on the match win by a mere 3oz to secure a valuable two points.
Third on the lake was Ken Hayes from peg 4 (permanent peg 14). Ken made the most of the autmunal sun beating down on him and caught on both pellet and caster fished up in the water to end the match with 36-00-00 and three points added to his healthy looking total thus far.

Despite both lakes fishing very differently, weights remained competitive with very little separating the top three on each lake. After two rounds, the league is still wide open with only Dan Bache carrying a slight weight advantage into round three should the need to fall back on weight arise. The likes of Josh Gaunt, Dan Bache, Dan Hart and Dave Bowyer, all of whom have proven their metal here on numerous occasions before now are all within just a few points of each other heading into the midway stage of the league on Saturday November 2nd.
Congratulations to both Dan Hart and Josh Gaunt on winning their lakes and scoring a perfect single point each. Congratulations also to Dan Bache and Josh Sutterby on finishing runner-up on Woodside pool and Island pool respectively.
Well done to all other competitors. Here's looking forward to round three!
