Eight (8) anglers lined the banks of Woodside pool for the third and latest round of the Woodside winter league series. Conditions on the day were ideal with temperatures having gone milder again for the weekend coupled with plenty of cloud cover. Depending on where anglers had drawn, the wind proved a little problematic at times, especially for those pegged on the dam wall. With the weather feeling abnormally warm again for the time of year, the resident carp, once again, made an appearance midway through the match. Still, everyone enjoyed some great silverfish sport.
Winner on the day was Allan Cox, who drew peg 2. Opting to fish maggot to depth short at top two plus two and, later on just a top kit, Allan was able to keep a steady run of fish coming to the net including some decent skimmers and roach. At the end of the five hours, Allan offered a superb 20-10-00 to the scales and confirmed a well deserved victory.
Second place was secured by Dan Hart from peg 11. Dan put in another great performance gaining more ground on those above him and continues to climb the leader board having leapfrogged three places over the last two rounds. Fishing maggot shallow for a large part of the match saw Dan catch some quality roach, rudd and skimmers to weigh in 18-03-00.
Rounding off a close top three finish on the day was league leader Maz Galaszewski. Max drew peg 13 and, like Dan, caught most of his fish shallow. Max got off to a great start catching quality roach for the opening hour to put himself into a convincing early lead. However, the more caster Max fed, the more carp moved in and, during the second half of the match, he was plagued with carp and big F1s whilst still managing the odd roach. At the end of the day, Max confirmed 16-01-00 of mainly roach to add to an already impressive overall weight after three rounds.
After three rounds, the top thee remains unchanged but there has been some interesting developments elsewhere. Max Galaszewski remains in pole position but has had his lead reduced by second placed Allan Cox, who is now within just a few pounds after another consistent performance. Jeff Rush keeps hold of his third place spot despite finishing outside the top three on this particular occasion. Dan Hart is making up some serious ground and continues to climb the leader board now putting himself in fourth place overall with an opportunity to sneak inside the top three overall on the final round. Josh Sutterby slips one place down to fifth whilst Ben and Jerry battle it out for sixth and seventh place. A special mention also goes to Nigel Hart, who put in a great performance on round three to regain an impressive amount of ground to remain just about in contention to move a place after the final round.
