Wordsley Lions AC, Woodside & Island Pools

Twelve (12) anglers from Wordsley Lions attended their first club match here at Woodside for a number of years with anglers pegged across both Woodside and Island pools. Conditions on the day were, once again warm and sunny, but the possibility of thunderstorms later on in the day promised to freshen things up. With the carp still spawning, anglers were not permitted to fish their edges with a minimum two metres from the bank rule still in effect.

WOODSIDE

Winner on the day on Woodside pool was Dave Bate, who drew peg 3 on the point of the island. Fishing corn short, Dave was able to find a number of carp as well as a handful of silvers to weigh in 40-08-00 to confirm victory on what turned out to be a difficult day on Woodside.

Second place was taken by Dave Bowyer from peg 22. Fishing pellet shallow, Dave was able to mug 39-15-00 of carp to finish ahead of third placed Len Lawton.

Len confirmed 32-15-00 of small carp and silverfish from peg 10 offering corn short at top two and two.

ISLAND

Once again, as per the previous day, Island pool fished significantly better than Woodside pool with some good weights recorded again.

Winner on the day on Island pool was Ken Hayes. Ken drew peg 17 on the point of the island and really had his work cut out for him with the ban on margin fishing in place! Peg 17 offers very little water to go at discounting edges and the far side margin over to the island, but Ken opted to fish hard 6mm pellet up in the water at top two plus one to find small carp in numbers and caught for the full five hours. Upon the scales making their way round to Ken, he admitted to close on 200lb! Ken's actual final weight after his six individual weighs was recorded at 179-10-00, which confirmed an easy victory and a new match lake record to boot!

Second place was taken by Ray Moss from peg 15 close to the opposite point of the island. Like Ken, Ray offered hard pellet up in the water on his short line to weigh in 92-06-00 of carp.

Finishing in third place was Jason Rhodes from peg 11. Jason fished maggot and pellet up in the water to offer 62-11-00 of carp and silverfish to the scales.
